For ABSA's best sales professionals, something special is at stake every year. Employees who exceed their targets earn a spot on an exclusive incentive trip. In May 2024, 108 winners traveled to Amsterdam for a multi-day experience that was not just about rewards, but primarily about connecting, discovering, and inspiring.
The challenge?
To develop a program that brought participants from South Africa together, introduced them to a new continent, and simultaneously provided space for recognition, networking, and unforgettable memories. ABSA wanted to reward its top performers with an incentive that:
- Highlighted and celebrated successes
- Brought colleagues closer together
- Offered an inspiring international experience
- Created lasting memories
Through our South African network, BARENTSZEN was asked to handle the entire concept, organization, and execution of the trip.
Our approach
At BARENTSZEN, we believe an incentive is more than just a trip. It is a carefully designed experience that brings people closer together and gives meaning to achievements.
For this incentive, we provided:
- Concept development and program design
- Full travel and accommodation organization
- Local logistics and supplier management
- On-site guidance throughout the entire program
- Continuous operational support by two experienced project managers
By being present from the initial preparations until departure, we were able to monitor every detail and provide participants with a completely worry-free experience.
An authentic introduction to the Netherlands
Day 1 – Arrival and wonder
After arriving in Amsterdam, participants were immediately introduced to the Netherlands via a visit to This is Holland. This spectacular experience offered a first impression of the country and provided an energetic start to the incentive.
Day 2 – Culture, traditions, and connection
The group visited the Zaanse Schans, where Dutch history, craftsmanship, and culture took center stage. A communal lunch and a visit to Volendam provided opportunities for informal meetings and strengthened the mutual connection within the group.
Day 3 – Personal experiences and an unforgettable finale
Participants could choose from various activities, including a cruise through the Amsterdam canals, a food tour through the Jordaan, or a visit to the Heineken Experience.
The incentive concluded with a festive gala evening at the National Maritime Museum. During this evening, achievements were celebrated, awards were presented, and there was space for pride, recognition, and connection.
The result?
The incentive delivered exactly what the client had in mind:
- 108 participants enjoyed a unique international experience together
- Top performances were visibly rewarded
- New connections were formed between colleagues
- Participants returned home inspired
"I thought you guys did an amazing job during the gala dinner, especially the timing of the walk-on music and the coordination of the luggage during check-out for the two flights. That was greatly appreciated."
Why this incentive worked
Strong incentives are not just about destinations. They are about people. By recognizing achievements, enabling new experiences, and creating space for genuine encounters, an experience is created that has an impact long after it ends.
